Lakewood UMC is a neighborhood church where you can really make a difference. We are a relatively small family of faith committed to sharing God's love with our community.

We strive to be a welcoming place to come to know God through worship, fellowship and Christian education. We strive to be a working church through mission, outreach and hospitality. Lakewood UMC is active in a variety of ways outside our walls. Two adult trips to provide Ike recovery on the Galveston area have worked with home owners to repair and restore hurricane damage. Locally, we adopt a home that needs repair and painting each year.

Our own building is busy with an amazing variety of groups and ministries. On any day you might find Kindermusic children and parents dancing and singing, rug hookers hooking, United Methodist Women meeting, AA and Al-anon groups gathering, Spanish classes, knotting classes, Bible studies, Vacation Bible School (this week), Bridge players, and young mothers. We have several members who are active in the theater community-- so groups of “groupies” travel regularly to attend and cheer! Special music events- at holiday times and throughout the year are scheduled. For the past two years we have been home to the Dallas Festival of Modern Music. We are always looking for new ways to serve in Lakewood.

This year we completed a major rebuilding of our beautiful pipe organ. At Lakewood our worship style is traditional. Not because we are stuck in the “old ways” but because we are called to this kind of spirituality. We worship at 10:15 and welcome everyone. Our family celebrates 100 year birthday parties and welcomes our youngest members with rockers in the Sanctuary. Persons of every race, creed, color, sexual orientation, age and background can find a home with us.

The last weekend of August, we are home to the Lakewood Summer Arts Faire. This event opens our place to artists from “all over” and the community. Art is for sale and the artists are here to talk about their work. Music and dance groups perform throughout the weekend and a great lunch is offered.
