The Lakewood Service League straps on the harness and leash for the fifth annual Walk, Wag and Run fundraiser from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 25 at Winfrey Point on White Rock Lake.
The event serves as one of three league fundraisers — along with the Celebrity Waiter Luncheon and annual Gala — and this year benefits the YMCA at White Rock and For the Love of the Lake.
Festivities begin with the Run Your Tail Off 5K and 10K races, followed by the Walk and Wag 3K dog walk, "Camp Canine" seven-station activity course, and the Kids 1K Ruff Race.
Other activities include Howl-o-Ween Kids Fair, Camp Canine, arts and crafts vendors, food, and costume contests. The Howl-o-Ween Kids Fair includes the obligatory bounce houses, a petting zoo, a gymnastics course, game stations, face painting, trick-or-treating, and a pumpkin patch.
The Best Pooch Halloween Costume and Dog-and-Owner Look-A-Like Costume Contest round out the activities. Admission for the Walk and Wag and Howl-O-Ween Kids Fair is $5 per adult, child, and dog. T-shirts are $15 each.
For the Love of the Lake recently sent out a request for volunteers to act as course guides, hand out water, and cheer the runners. For volunteer information, contact Vicki Dolton at or Susan Hello.
